Congratulating the Graduating Class of Our Fifth Leadership Program for Women Supervisors and Regulators

Toronto Centre is proud to introduce and congratulate the fifth graduating class of the Leadership Program for Women Supervisors and Regulators comprised of 14 women leaders from Sub-Saharan Africa.

Distinguished women leaders, Dr. Grace Muradzikwa, Commissioner of the Insurance and Pensions Commission (IPEC) of Zimbabwe, Toronto Centre board member Ms. Elsie Addo Awadzi, Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Ghana, Mrs. Vera Kamtukule, Minister of Tourism, Malawi, and Dr. Tukiya Kankasa Mabula, Former Deputy Governor, Bank of Zambia, shared their leadership experiences and journey with the graduates.

Cheryl Urban, Assistant Deputy Minister, Sub-Saharan Africa, Global Affairs Canada, provided congratulatory remarks at the graduation. She shared her insights from her distinguished career in the Canadian public service.

In line with its mission of delivering high-quality capacity building programs for supervisors and regulators, Toronto Centre designed this program to help current and aspiring women leaders become more effective in their roles and feel more empowered. The program enables them to better understand that their experience, skills, and perspectives are valuable to the success and effectiveness of their supervisory and regulatory agencies.

The program specifically links the classroom to the world of women financial supervisors and regulators and the challenges they encounter in building stable and inclusive financial systems. It introduces the participants to new leadership practices and strategies through dialogue and practical exercises. The program also provides them with the opportunity to practice the implications of their new learnings within the reality and context of working in a supervisory authority.

Professional leadership development is a lifelong journey that requires significant attention and commitment from both the individuals and their organization. Toronto Centre has established a thriving alumni network of women supervisors which provides them an opportunity to support each other and share their experiences, concerns, and challenges.

In 2023, Toronto Centre launched Level Two of the Leadership Program for Women Supervisors and Regulators (Women Leading Change). In Fall 2024, Toronto Centre will launch the Leadership Program for Women Supervisors and Regulators from the Indo-Pacific region.

This program is designed in line with the UN 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), and in particular SDG 5, Achieve Gender Equality and Empower All Women and Girls.

Toronto Centre has been offering this coveted program annually since its launch in 2020.
